Sand in a mbuna tank

I'm thinking of changing from a gravel substrate to a sand substrate in my 55 gallon mbuna tank. My question is what kind of sand will work and not harm the fish or change water ph or anything? Will pool filter sand work? And how much to I need for a standard 55 gallon tank?

Pool filter sand is a choice many people use, You only need about one inch as the fish will move it around and if it's too deep nasty gasses will build up near the bottom. I think about 25 pounds in a 55
